Alba Voronezh has opened its new aluminium beverage can factory in Russia’s Voronezh region, capable of making as many as 4,000 cans every minute.
The plant sits inside the “Center” Special Economic Zone. Total investment hit 12 billion rubles (equivalent to 143 million US dollars). Voronezh Governor Alexander Gusev shared that the whole build only took 11 months to finish.
This factory has created over 200 local jobs, with an annual output target of roughly 1 billion aluminium cans. Its warehouse space can store up to 150 million cans at one time.
It is forecast to cover no less than 25% of Russia’s aluminium beverage packaging needs. Over the coming decade, the site is expected to pay about 3 billion rubles ($36 million) in taxes to the regional government, plus more than 1 billion rubles ($12 million) for off-budget funds.
On the same day, a new aluminium canning line also went live at the Baltika brewery in Voronezh. This smaller project cost nearly 260 million rubles ($3 million), and can run at 40,000 cans per hour.
The very first product filled on this new line was Voronezhskoye Zhigulevskoye, a local beer brand with over 60 years of production history.
As Governor Gusev noted, these new production sites will let domestic drink makers buy aluminium packaging made locally, so they rely less on imported supplies.
